    Swansfield is part of the village of Harper's Choice which was created by James Rouse. This neighborhood was founded in 1967. It is located in Harper's Choice in western Columbia, Maryland. Before this land was residential, it, along with the rest of Harper's Choice, was all farmland called Jericho that was owned by Robert Carrol. James Rouse built Harper's Choice to create a place where people feel togetherness. In fact, the Rouse company created and organized the whole Columbia.

    A few special features that Swansfield has are the Bain Center, the athletic club, an elementary school, and a park and pool. The Bain Center is a senior center that opened in 1983 and was named after Florence Bain. The athletic club includes a miniature golf course, a skate park, and batting cages.
